"Everybody's counting us out. They're saying we're not a big league ballclub and we're going to be losing some important pieces during the trade deadline. The way I look at it, I don't think they're looking to just unload people. We're playing these teams that are in division races and they're supposed to be winning. We're not just rolling over."
(Tim Redding, via Washington Post, 7/29/2007)
NAAAts 6, Mets 5: Nail biter! Langerhans helps NAAAts survive D'Angelo Jimenez Comedy Night* in NY; Joel Hanrahan solid in major league debut, triples, and doesn't get tossed (unlike Lannan).
Mets 3, NAAAts 1: A real nice start by Tim Redding, but NAAAts come out swinging and missing against El Duque.
Meanwhile...
It's official: Da Meat Hook's $10 million, two-year extension is a done deal. Stan Kasten tells the Washington Times "I'm not sure it would have been a decision we would have made three months ago. But it was the right one right now."
Wily Mo! Wily Mo! It was only a matter of time before the Wily Mo Pena-to-Washington rumors started floating in. From Nationals dot com: "The Nationals are interested in acquiring Red Sox outfielder Wily Mo Pena, according to a baseball source with knowledge of the situation." The price should be low, since Wily Mo has been stinking it up this year. Don't worry that he can't hit the breaking ball, he can hit the ball a mile!
Zimmerman grounded into his 19th double play of the season yesterday, that's good for 2nd best in the majors!
*to be fair, D'AJ did go 2-4 with 1 BB and RBI batting leadoff despite two baserunning mishaps and a botched popup.

Wily Mo, seriously? UGH!
Does Bowden have to go after every player he had a hard-on for circa 2001? I think Mo's time in Boston is more "Mo Vaughn with the Angels" than "Mo Vaughn with the Red Sox".
I don't think a "change of scenery" is going to help him, I think learning to hit a curve ball will.

Well...my man crush for Wily Mo isn't nearly as hopeless as Jimbo's, but I still LOVE him...yes, that's L-O-V-E in all caps. It's completely irrational, but I would love to see him in a Nationals uniform asap...then again I can't figure out where they'd play him long-term with the $10 Million (and 20 pound lighter!) Meat in left next season (assuming Nick J is back which is probably a bad assumption) and Kearns in right. But yeah, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Check back tomorrow when we make our plea for Wily Mo 'official'...
