We can't take another night of offensive ineptitude. Bring Barry Bonds to DC. Immediately.
Nationals: Last in every major offensive category. Worst record in baseball. Season down the toilet. TV ratings stink. Attendence: not so hot.
Talk us down. We can't think of a single reason for the Nationals *not* to make a play for the greatest homerun hitter of all time.

I'm not as against it as I would have been 2 months ago, but here are the reasons you don't do it:
1. he alienates a certain core of the fan base.
2. he makes life harder for young guys like Balester and Lannan by bringing such a circus.
3. he's bad defender, which also makes life harder for young pitchers (clearly the fact that Wily Mo is the option makes this less relevant).
The reasons I'm less against it than I might have been are:
1. there seems to be an element of the fan base that wants to see something ANYTHING happen. Of all the knee-jerk responses, this seems like a less damaging hting than, say, firing Manny, or rushing a bunch of 21YOs who aren't ready to get massacred in the bigs. Personally, if we need to send a message I'd just fire Bowden, but you knew that.
2. Wily Mo has turned out to be totally unacceptable, and the injuries.
3. seems like at this point that there's no market for him at all and that therefore we could probably get him for relatively cheap.
4. Mike Bascik on MASN! (just as long as he's not on the mound, I'm ok having him around.)

Is that Barry's chest hair in the bottom right hand corner?????
Re Barry: Given the sterling journalistic record of this fine fine online periodical, I'm guessing there MIGHT be some tongue-in-cheek element to your calls or Barry. But honestly, at this point, it couldn't do toooooo much damage.
The only negative that matters is what Fire Jim pointed out, he'd alienate the dwindling fan base we have. Sure, it'd get LOTS of free press. And we'd probably draw over 20k for a home game for a few weeks.
If we're sticking to "Teh Planne" (spelling intentional), then we can't sign Barry, and we have to keep cycling through all our "prospects".

No ckstevenson, we're dead serious, actually. Sort of.
The point is, the organization needs to do SOMETHING. Get creative for the love of Jesus (not Colome)! Enough of cycling through the Langerhans' and Casto's of the world. Do something that makes this team watchable for the rest of 2008. Best of all, he's low risk -- it doesn't impact the vaunted Plan. They don't need to trade prospects, they probably don't need to spend much money on him, and if it all goes to hell, they're not on the hook for next year. Of the short list of problems I listed above (1. Last in every major offensive category. 2. Worst record in baseball. 3. Season down the toilet. 4. TV ratings stink. 5. Attendence: not so hot.) bringing in Bonds addresses #'s 1, 4, and 5. That's something. '08 is lost.
Of FJB's points -- #1 is maybe the only thing that might be worth considering, *maybe*. But don't you think the fanbase is beyond aleination at this point? The organization has already proven it doesn't care about character or past misdeeds in its players (see: Dukes, Lo Duca, Young).
We say: Get Barry.

I will not rest till you answer my "Barry Chest Hair Question" (BCHQ)...

Answer to the BCHQ: It sure looks like it...maybe it's a byproduct of the HGH?
