"We are not pursuing Manny Ramirez." (Jim Bowden, via MLB.com, 11/12/2008)
Manny in DC. No chance, right?
According to the the LA Times, the Dodgers offered a $25 million, one year deal to Manny Ramirez; which he quickly turned down. Jayson Stark reported he had 48 hours to accept the offer.
The not-surprising part is that he was offered a one year deal. The surprising part is to read that the Nationals are "known to be monitoring the situation":
The New York Mets, San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals are known to be monitoring the situation, but don't appear to be inclined to pay him more than $20 million a season.

Would make sense to this Phillies fan. Bowden needs something- anything- to keep attendance up at new ballpark. Manny Being Manny would certainly do it. Daily analyses in Post about The State of His Head would be fun. I smell collusion by owners. Under guise of, 'but times are tough and we have to cut back everywhere boo hoo hoo.' Fire some administrative assistants, ticket salespeople and clubhouse attendants, yes. Cut back on free agents.... we'll see.....

I don't smell collusion by owners so much as I smell a complete misreading of the market by Manny's devil-worshiping agent.

Lets hope that by "monitoring" this means that the Nats are trying to figure out what the market is doing and how much they should shell out for Dunn

I see Dunn's price being squarely in the middle of the $25 mil the Dodgers offered Manny and the 1-year $8 million the White Sox offered to Bobby Abreu...
Sadly, our gut feeling is telling us Dunn won't end up here.
