Knives are sharpened in NatsTown...
...but this hour, still no word on Operation De-Acta-vation. Manny Acta is, apparently, still employed by the Nationals.
Maybe he'll ride it out for a while. An interesting paragraph in a piece by The Washington Times' Mark Zuckerman this morning, stating that Manny has "strong support" throughout the organization:
Acta has made private reference to his shaky job status to confidants in recent weeks and has suggested that he knows it's unlikely he'll survive beyond this season. The manager, though, continues to have strong support from all corners of the organization, from the Lerner ownership group that hired him in November 2006 to the acting general manager who inherited him this spring to the players on his roster.
Okay, okay, that's all well and good. We've read plenty of supportive quotes from the players in the papers in recent days; and we discount anything Rizzo says because he has that "fake" "interim" "acting" tag attached to his job title. Here's an idea: How about hearing directly from someone from the Lerner ownership group? How about a few words from Ted Lerner himself, or maybe someone can grab Mark Lerner after he's done shagging fly balls before tonight's game, get something on the record, you know, from the guys who write the checks. And, here's something - how come Silent Stan Kasten isn't mentioned by name here? Where, oh where, is Stan Kasten? Or is he just lumped in with "the Lerner ownership group that hired [Acta] in November 2006", because, technically, he's lumped in with the rest of those poor suckers.
We wrote Stan an email message yesterday asking if he'd be willing to comment, but haven't heard back from him. Stan, we know you're reading this - drop us a line!

Sounds like the Lerners are running scared. They shound come out and say they don't care if they win a game or not. They would like to move the team to Las Vegas. They just don't want to let the cat out of the bag.
