"I wanted to stay in the game because I didn't have a lot of pitches. It was the manager's [decision]. I don't know what happened."
(Beltran Perez, via Washington Times, 9/20/2006)"I'm impressed by him. I'm impressed, I'm impressed."
(Frank Robinson, via Washington Post, 9/20/2006)
The New Ace shines in first start for Nats. Frank was impressed, but apparently not impressed enough to let him go more than six (70 pitches).
Second-guessing the manager is fun, especially after a win. Nationals 9, Braves 2.

Is Beltran the new John Patterson?
Hey, there's another name we haven't heard much from this year. Do you think he and Cristian "This is better than worker's comp" Guzman get together and make fun of the "working stiffss"?
Next year I'm sure John Boy will bounce back, be perfectly healthy, and snap right back into his old form. Like his 30 innings in 2002, 55 in '03, 98 in '04, or 40.2 this year. According to Tom "Slice and Dice" Boswell, if we cobble some crazy assortment of his partial year stats then John's a stellar 8-13 with a near 5.50 ERA (though his strikeout to inning or walk ratio is sick).
