Judging from his comments yesterday, it sure sounds like ol' Trader Jim has been beaten down by the reality of the lack of options available to him as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches at 4PM today...
"For the most part, there isn't much of a market. Rauch was our one marketable player that we traded. Look, we are a last-place team. A lot of them are underachieving. That's not surprising." (Jim Bowden, via Nationals dot com, 7/30/2008)
Maybe most concerning, though, is the exchange on Nationals Journal around the status of top pick Aaron Crow...

I liked how Jimmy Hairdo(n't) was calling out ALL the veterans on the team. Now the stats bear it out, so in a way I'm glad he had the balls to do so. But yeah, way to kill any hopes at all of trading them. Who'd want to call him at this point if he's outright saying they all suck?
Aaron Crow is a goner, that won't happen. They are looking to next year's draft as they get a compensation pick if he doesn't sign.
Isn't it weird that no one will comment on Da Meat Hook? It makes me legitimately concerned for his health, they'd be more willing to comment if he were holding steady or doing better. "No comment" means he's doing worse. Though, maybe there's some sort of HIPPAA restriction?
