"He's like a 12 year old David Cone, with Jose Rijo's [guts]."

Nationals look to bolster sputtering rotation, stop 10 game losing streak, with Guam Little League rhp Parish Reyes.
Reyes to start for Nationals in Philadelphia tonight. According to unnamed sources with little knowledge of the situation, GM Jim Bowden, who in the same breath compared Reyes to David Cone, Jose Rijo, and Brandon Webb, was effusive in his praise of team ownership: "We're very blessed that we have ownership and a president that are committed to allowing us to draft the best players and allowing us to sign them, including Little Leaguers." Sources say the Nationals are "close" to signing "two or three" more Little League arms.

Meanwhile...
- Bad year for Zim. Wonder how those contract negotiations are going?
Jesus' calf is ok; he'll be back in the lineup tonight. Jesus, it was his knee! See you in 2009, Jesus!- Boooooooooooo!!!! Don't worry, Nationals fans, Paul Lo Duca is in a "happy place" now (via Miami Herald, 8/18/2008):
"This game's a weird game. This has definitely been a challenging year for me. But I'm in a happy place right now. I'm very complacent."
...Sounds like he got booed a little bit during his stint in AAA, too:
"The worst was when I was in Triple A in Omaha, and I was getting ragged pretty hard...I take it with a grain of salt. Hey, if people pay to come to the ballpark, they can say whatever they want. As long as they don't say anything about my daughter or my mom. They pay their way in. They pay our salaries."
- Phillies fans resorting to mock-applause to help prop up the free-falling, front-running Phillies. Over at The Fightins', tonight's Nats-Phillies game is summed up like this: "Blanton faces Bergmann tonight. Who will suck worse? Gosh, I hope it’s their guy! GO PHILS!" We're feeling a three-game sweep.
