"I didn't start thinking until the 10th inning, and that's when I realized I'm like dying out there. And I started thinking, 'Man, we've got to do something.' It's like everybody was feeling those 4 1/2 hours. I know I was feeling it. I'll probably be feeling it for the next two days."

Nationals 7, Braves 4: Dukes, huge, again; this time in the 14th.
8 shutout innings from Manning, Colome, Mock, Hinckley, Rivera, Shell, Hanrahan. Dukes turns forgettable 0-6 into memorable 1-7 (thanks, Bobby Cox!). And, for the love of Jesus (not Flores), don't forget Alberto Gonzalez.
More good news: Padres beat Brewers, Mariners beat Yankees. Worst-place is still there for the taking.
Meanwhile...
- Da Meat Hook: Big Apple bound.
- Detwiler: Big League bound in 2009? See you in 2010, Ross!
- Ha ha! An 88-year old woman should've known better than to go see the Braves against the Nationals as the first live game of her life.

Dear Ted Lerner,
Please keep Elijah's man-sitter on the payroll for at least another three years.
Sincerely yours,

how fast after the final out does Willie Harris untuck his shirt?

As long as Dukes keeps his head on a swivel, he may one day be able to assume the role of man-sitter. Which is a slot that every team needs to fill.
Best of luck, Elijah. And thanks for the great season.
