Oh well, it's a meaningless weekend "battle" between arguably the two worst teams in baseball.
Just don't call the Nats THE worst team in baseball; at least not in front of Jim Riggleman. The Mets have lost 5 straight coming into tonight's game; the Nats have lost 3 in a row. Surely, one team's losing streak will come to an end tonight; unless they both manage to lose somehow. Stranger things have happened to the Nats this season.
Just for fun, let's take a little trip down Memory Lane together, shall we? Remember late 2007, with the Mets in a freefall - a dwindling lead in the NL East over Philly - and the Nats coming to Shea for a 3 game series?
September 26, 2007: Nats 9, Mets 6. (Mets lead in NL East down to 1 game.)
A few days later, the Great Mets Collapse of 2007 was complete.
Ah, doesn't it just make you long for the days of meaningful games in September for the Nationals? This year they can't even play spoiler.
