Good news! The Nationals have signed 22 of their 50 picks from the 2010 MLB Draft.
Bad news! None of them are named Bryce Harper.
The Nationals haven't signed any of their Top 4 picks yet, including Harper and: #2 Sammy Solis (LHP); #3 Rick Hague (SS); and #4 A.J. Cole (RHP). The clock is ticking: August 16th is the deadline to sign 'em all up.
But back to Harper. SportingNews.com posted a transcript of an interview on ESPN Radio Las Vegas from Monday with Bryce Harper and his JUCO coach, Tim Chambers. (Chambers may or may not still be talking to the Nats about a job himself.) One interesting revelation from the interview: Chambers' kid is turning three, and Bryce Harper was planning to attend his birthday party on Monday afternoon. Cut to the scene of Bryce Harper, in war paint, standing in line with a bunch of crying 3-year olds waiting for a clown to make balloon animals. Harper is also crying, so his war paint is streaming down his cheeks,
A couple of noteworthy quotes from Harper during the interview, including this tug-on-your-heartstrings exchange where he describes the tears of Satan:
How did Harper celebrate with Scott Boras when he was drafted first overall in the MLB draft?
Harper: He just gave me a handshake and hugged me. He teared up a little bit. He's great people. They have great people at Boras Corp. They're all for the baseball guys. They're just trying to get what they can do to help you out. They're great people down there.

Touching. They really care at Boras Corp. And you can be sure Stan Kasten is getting misty eyed at the thought of Scott Boras tearing up. Speaking of "great people," here's a shot of Stan Kasten and Scott Boras enjoying a chat behind the batting cage at Nationals Park (via @ckstevenson) before Stephen Strasburg's debut. Are those tears in Kasten's eyes? Did Boras just tell him the bad news about the number Harper wants?
