Great Expectations.
And so, Bryce Harper's #34 was retired in a ceremony at College of Southern Nevada Friday night. Harper didn't wear his warpaint to the ceremony.
Here's Harper, via Las Vegas Review Journal, talking about his slim chances of making the Major League club out of Spring Training; and more realistic chance of getting the call in September:
"I expect to be with the big league club. You know that," a grinning Harper said Friday night. "But it probably won't be happening. We'll see."
...
I'm thinking I'll be out there next year. Hopefully I'll get a big league call-up in September and then be able to be out there next year and try to make the team out of camp. That's what I'm shooting for." (Bryce Harper, via Las Vegas Review Journal, 1/29/2011)
Sounds good. We'll plan on seeing you in September in Washington, Kid.

His number was retired at MORSE Stadium. Funny since that is who he may be replacing--- a guy named Morse.
The irony here is that the Nats beat writer wrote earlier that Bryce Harper could be on the Nats Opening Day roster which wouldn't happen even if Harper were to hit .400 in Spring Training so you have Harper himself who knows he won't be in DC on Opening Day 2011 and is hoping a September callup is a possiblity.
I have said from the start that Bryce will be a Sept callup if he puts up good numbers in the Minors and then added to the 25 man June 2012.
I hope that Bryce Harper flies through the Minor Leagues and forces Rizzo to add him.

You said: "...talking about his slim chances of making the Major League club out of Spring Training..."
Shouldn't that be: talking about his ZERO chances of making...?

@Michael We're with you on the September callup thing. Although at one point we idiotically said something about Harper being here by June.
Just hoping he stays healthy...
