(Todd Coffey's elbow, moments after getting drilled by a line drive on Sunday. Screen grab of TV/MASN.)
"I was just a little sore. I did about three rounds of ice on it and treatment. The key now is just to knock the swelling down. The doctor looked at it. Nothing’s broken, which is the main thing. Knock the swelling out, and I’m good to go."
(Todd Coffey, via Nationals Journal, 5/15/2011)
Just a little sore? Todd Coffey took a direct hit to the elbow on a liner by (Jim Bowden's former Nats' second baseman of the future) Emilio Bonifacio in the seventh; and that massive thing in the photo above is just a little sore?
Even better, Coffey seemed even more upset that he didn't get the job done:
"It's even worse I didn't get the job done -- get the out and get out of the inning."
(Todd Coffey, via Nationals.com, 5/15/2011)
And Coffey Tweeted a similar sentiment:
Here's an idea (a freebie for Mike Rizzo): how about releasing Matt Stairs and using Todd Coffey as a pinch-hit-by-pitch specialist? Just stick that elbow out over the plate?
