One thing that I haven't seen mentioned: Even if Rizzo had picked up the now infamous option year on Riggleman's contract, he still could have replaced him as manager next season. The option would only have served to increase Riggleman's cost to $1.2M, still well below the average pay of a MLB manager. What this comes down to, ultimately, is not whether Riggleman coaches next season but Rizzo not wanting to give Riggleman any more money for THIS season.

Remember why Johnson got canned in Baltimore? He didn't respect Management, meaning the owner.
But, if the Lerners and Rizzo have a kindred soul in Johnson in the R-E-S-P-E-C-T department, maybe it will work. For awhile that is; Johnson always wears out his Welcome eventually. If they keep it to only the 80+ games remaining, it should be doable.
