(Bubba Starling, QB. Screen grab via ESPNU.)
Nats' first pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft all depends on who's left on the board at #6.
And so, if Scott Boras client and prospective Nebraska QB Bubba Starling is still around at #6, the Nats have to take him, signability questions be damned, correct?
But first, we'll have to wait and see what the Pirates (1), Mariners (2), Diamondbacks (3), Orioles (4), and Royals (5) do with the first five picks, and see who's left on the board among the apparent top 6 prospects: Cole, Bauer, Hultzen, Rendon, Bundy, and Starling. MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo reports that the Pirates will take Gerrit Cole #1.
Nationals have picks 6, 23 (comp for Dunn), 34 (comp for Dunn, Comp round A), 96 (3rd round), and 127. Here's hoping all that time Mike Rizzo spent out of sight while the ship was sinking a few weeks back pays off...
