(Anonymous sources say Davey Johnson booed Jason Werth after Werth started a rally-killing strike 'em out throw 'em out double play in the 9th on Friday night. Sources Screen grab of MASN via MLB.com)
...Davey Johnson joked about all those one-run wins by the Nats? Seems like years ago.
Before Jason Werth established himself as a Major League star, he was a catcher for the Baysox. The team will honor its former backstop with a bobblehead. The first 1,000 fans ages three and up receive the bobbling rendition of the former Bowie backstop.
Okay, so we understand the catcher's gear. But the beard? Shouldn't it look more like this (via minorleaguebaseball.com):

So Michael Morse finished 4th in the NL Final Vote tally. Perhaps he would've stood a better chance if Todd Coffey had taken his shirt off in the hot tub in the Vote Morse promo video?

"That one, you chalk up to me. I was just trying to save some guys in the bullpen. They’ve been overworked. I gambled. That’s what I did. I gambled with my starter." (Davey Johnson, via Washington Post, 7/8/2011)
Here's video from WHTM TV in Harrisburg on the potential economic impact of Harpermania on the Senators. Seems they're expecting big things. Bigger than Strasburgmania last summer?
Fairly or unfairly, Jayson Werth is now getting somewhat similar treatment from Nats fans at home after a slow start and putrid June. The Washington Post's Thomas Boswell (who now seems to be scrambling to lower the expectations bar aound town on behalf of Mike Rizzo) probably resides in the "unfairly" camp with his latest column.
But fear not: In an article yesterday Werth told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick he's happy in Washington despite his struggles, yet misses his old Philly teammates:
"I definitely want to (dispel) the idea that I'm not happy. Other than my offensive production -- which I'm OK with because I know it's going to turn around -- I'm happy with my decision. I definitely miss my teammates in Philly and I miss playing there and all that. But I've turned the page and I feel good about my decision. I see the future of this organization and where it's going, and I'm really satisfied and I really like it here. When I'm in my seventh year, I think I'll look back and go, 'That was a really good career move.' " (Jayson Werth, via ESPN.com, 7/6/2011)
"There was a runner on first and second and I got jammed up a little bit. My hand was hurting a little bit. So I tried to lay it down and get the runners over. It worked out." (Bryce Harper, via MASNSports.com, 7/7/2011)
(Wilson Ramos missed the squeeze sign the first time, and so swung away nearly killed Michael Morse. Two pitches later, he got it right to drive in the winning run. Screen grabs via MLB.com/MASN.)
And so, the grassroots campaign to elect Michael Morse to the All Star game continues. Tonight, campaign manager Ryan Zimmerman in a "Vote Morse" t-shirt in his post-game interview on MASN.

And so Roger Clemens has arrived in Washington for his date in Federal District Court. Hey, Clemens is probably available to throw out the first pitch tonight at Nationals Park before Nats-Cubs; either that or run in the President's Race. Think Bud Selig would mind?
