(And there's video of the Cowboy Monkeys doing their thing Thursday night at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg. "The poor sheep?" How about the poor monkeys?" Twitvid via @MeganHealey)
Nothing says "Strasmas" like monkeys stapled to the backs of some collies chasing sheep around a minor league stadium, huh?
And so Stephen Strasburg made his sixth and final rehab start for Harrisburg in a circus-like atmosphere Thursday night, and it appears that all systems are go for Tuesday's Strasurrection at Nationals Park. Strasburg was perfect until 2 outs in the 5th (then hit a guy); gave up his only hit in the 6th. Strasburg's line: 6 IP, 1 H, 4 K, 70 pitches/53 strikes, 7 groundouts/4 flyouts, topped out at 99 on the gun (although reportedly dipped to 94ish on the gun in the sixth).
According to the Washington Post's Dave Sheinin, Strasburg was not impressed by the Monkeys:
8:13 p.m. The Cowboy Monkeys were a bit of a letdown, I must say. A couple of collies. A couple of monkeys. Four goats they were chasing. A bad cover of “Ghost Riders in the Sky” over the loudspeakers. The whole thing lasted maybe two minutes. Strasburg wasn’t impressed either. He never even looked up from his warm-up pitches.
Here's AP video of Strasburg being Strasburg last night:
