And so, while you're sitting around waiting for the Prince Fielder market to complete its spectacular and final collapse all around Scott Boras, enjoy the photo above of Bryce Harper's grocery cart. Wait: are the Oreos a "Welcome to Washington" gift for Prince Fielder?
Now, about that market for Fielder? Here's Jim Bowden (via Federal Baseball):
"The only team that I know of that legitimately is still left on the table, albeit [at] much less than the asking price, is the Washington Nationals. Now, Ted Lerner [and] Mark Lerner met with Scott Boras last night and, look, you're talking about two of the best negotiators in baseball between Ted Lerner and Scott Boras, but it's also a kind of a unique situation because the last time these guys got into a situation like this was the Mark Teixeira negotiations of a few years ago. But the difference in that case was Teixeira literally had the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Orioles and the Angels all playing at big numbers. This time around, Scott doesn't have the same type of leverage he had then."
(Jim Bowden, on MLB Network Radio, via Federal Baseball, 1/12/2012)
In other words: payback's a bitch, Scott! So if Boras really intends to take his time ("Spring Training doesn't start until late February") in an attempt to make someone blink (and Lerner's not budging!), one has to wonder out loud (yes, again) if Ted Lerner will pull his current last, best offer off the table...make Boras come back to him with hat in hand and accept an even leaner offer that will assuage any sense of buyer's (offer) remorse Lerner might be feeling at the moment? Your guess is as good as ours.
