And so, obviously, as of Monday morning there's no "done deal" in place for Prince Fielder (THANKS TWITTER!), but as Jim Bowden Tweeted last night, the two sides are continuing to work on a deal.
We're hearing from someone who knows stuff and is usually right that the sides might be inching closer. It helps that Boras seems to have readjusted his definition of long term much lower-- from 10 to 7 years. And when the Nats keep saying publicly "nothing has changed", that's mostly true: we hear Ted Lerner is still holding firm at 5 years. A person who knows stuff and is usually right told us that if Lerner agrees to a straight 7 year contract it's a done deal...and that Lerner *might* consider going beyond 5 years if there are vesting options to add the additional years to protect Nats' interests. Don't know what this means for opt-out clauses that have been bandied about previously. Time seems to be of the essence, though.
And now would seem to be about the time for a mystery team to swoop in, right?
This much we know for sure: rumors of Prince Fielder in the Air Screech suit at last Monday's Wizards game are false.

There you go! Needed that "fix" of PF Flyer news just like I need my daily morning Starbucks jolt!
This just seems eerily familiar to me to the time when the Nats were pursuing Teixeira. The Nats were the high bidder the whole time and the Orioles were rumored as their competition. Then the Yankees swooped in.
27 days until pitchers & catchers report. I will go out on a limb and guess this will happen in the next 3 weeks.

If the deal falls apart over the number of years, there will be a number of people asking why the Nats after giving Werth 7 years wouldn't do the same for Fielder (some of them might ask if it had anything to do with Werth being white and Fielder black).

Steven, seems like you are in a club of 1 making such a RIDICULOUS statement to suggest something so preposterous.

Steven, the people that ask that would be idiots.

I enjoy the NatsEnquirer so much then scan the comments only to read Stephen's crap.
This year will determine if Jayson Werth can rebound.
Prince Fielder will have to be judged on his own merits and just because you screwed up on Werths deal shouldn't make you agree to something stupid on Fielder because Steven J. Berke thinks it could be racist.
If NatsEnquirer can delete comments and edit. I hope you do that.

@NatsLink: Yes we *can* delete comments, but unless there's something extremely abusive that warrants removal we generally just leave them, even the really, really, really, stupid ones. Plus, Michael & DJ handled that one perfectly for us anyway...
