Thursday and Friday will be a dream come true for Bryce Harper the Yankee fan. On Thursday, the kid will face the Yankees in Viera. On Friday, he'll reportedly travel with the Nationals to face the Yankees in Tampa:
"Oh, man, that’s going to be fun. Even Pineada tomorrow. You’ve got a guy who pitched for Seattle and was great, came over to the Yankees of course. He’s going to be fun to face tomorrow. It’s going to kind of crazy to have CC, a frickin’ train coming at you. He’s kind of big on the bump." (Bryce Harper, via Washington Post, 3/14/2012)
See, Nats? You can take away the keys to the kid's Twitter account, but you can't stop him from saying wacky things like: "CC, a frickin' train coming at you. He's kind of big on the bump," even if you stick a baseball in his mouth like the photo from the upcoming Baseball Preview in GQ (via DC Sports Bog):
"I want to play the game hard. I want to ram it down your throat, put you into left field when I’m going into second base."
More from Harper's GQ interview...on what he misses most about being a "kid" (full interview available here):
"Playing football... I’m getting chills just thinking about it. That first knock of the game, you are going on kickoff and you are just trying to smack somebody just as hard as you can. That’s how I play baseball. I want to hit you. I want to run your ass over. Sorry."
Wait, isn't Harper still a kid?
Anyway, a few years from now every word that comes out of Bryce Harper's mouth probably won't be picked apart, and Bryce Harper playing a spring training game at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa will be no big deal...
