In case you've been living under a rock and/or living outside of the convection oven that is Washington DC (say, Alaska): there's a heat wave going on in DC. Friday night, Stephen Strasburg wilted in the 96 degree heat (again). On Saturday, Gio Gonzalez earned his 12th win with 6 innings of 3 hit-ball in 101+ degree heat. Tyler Clippard earned his 14th save.
After the game, a sweat-soaked Clippard explained in his postgame interview with MASN that it was actually140 degrees in the home bullpen at Nationals Park today:
"I think one of the grounds crew guys came down and took the temperature of the turf and it was like 140 degrees out there. So we had to sit up in the tunnel in the shade. But it was still pretty warm."
(Tyler Clippard, via postgame interview on MASN, 7/7/2012)
140 degrees is pretty warm. Maybe Bryce Harper should have handed out freeze pops?
