Up above, the video (by AllStarsPlus) of the introduction of the 5th Racing President, William Howard Taft, at NatsFest on Saturday. See also LetTeddyWin, which has more photos and video of the intro. In a somewhat disappointing twist, the Taft character is not fat - not at all. We were hoping for a sumo suit. Oh well:
According to Yahoo Sports, the category focused on - you guessed it - questions about clowns. I'll take "That's a Clown Question, Bro" for $2000, Alex.
So Bryce Harper and his girlfriend Kayla Varner were at the UNLV basketball game last night, and some students brought a giant Bryce Harper head. Thankfully, Harper and Varner posed with the big head, and posted to their respective Twitter accounts.
Certainly not what Davey Johnson had in mind when he jokingly said of Bryce Harper at the BBWAA meeting in New York last Saturday "His head is too big already."
And so, with all the rumors and speculation swirling around who the 5th Racing President will be at Nationals Park this year, we're throwing our vote firmly behind Richard Nixon.
Unfortunately, people who know stuff and are usually right are refusing to confirm or deny our pick for us. Guess we'll just have to wait for NatsFest:
That impressive photo of Danny Espinosa's Beard posing with Danny Espinosa and his girlfriend @SarabethMosher at Ryan Zimmerman's wedding was discussed at length during Wednesday night's edition of Intentional Talk on MLB Network. And Kevin Millar pulled a Brent Musberger in the process, and revealed that Espinosa's girlfriend went as far to block him on Twitter earlier in the day. Some crappy video from a TV set, above.
Here's a rough transcript of the proceedings:
Millar: Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa Tweeted this picture from Jordan Zimmermann's wedding. Should Espinosa keep rockin the show beard? And I don't even see the beard, Rose. Where's the beard.
Rose: "I don't even see him. Where is he?
Millar: {Whistle} {Whistle} I got no idea.
Rose: First of all - wow - Danny, congratulations. You get some MVP votes based on that...look at this. First of all...that is such a difference, that looks like a really, really, fake beard.
[Camera cuts to photo of Espinosa before and after beard pic, without his girlfriend]
Millar: "Now I see the beard, though. I didn't see the beard in the last photo. Now I saw the beard right there. Wow, Danny. I'm gonna tell ya, thumbs up on the beard. {Whistle}
Rose: You're a facial hair connoisseur. Do you like the beard, or no?
Millar: I love the beard, obviously it's got tremendous value to what was under his arm, Rose. I mean, let's be facts! Speak facts.
Rose: It looks like the black Santa Claus beard. It's that fluffy and everything.
Millar: I mean, I didn't even recognize it. I mean, it was just a gorgeous dress. Danny? Back to you, Chris. Don't make it awkward.
Rose: ...You made it awkward. She's already blocked you from Twitter. You tried to follow that lady.
Millar: You put a big pause. I was talking, you put a big pause and made it TV awkwardness.
Rose: Is it true or not that lady blocked you from her Twitter account?
Millar: True story. I was trying to view the pictures of the beard, and it was like, I can't view it!
Rose: See? You scare people. Does he scare you?
[Cut to Alanna Rizzo in MLB Network studio]
Rizzo: He went a little Brent Musberger on her, like Katherine Webb. You need to tone it down! She is taken, and you are married, Kevin!
MLB Network issues an apology in 5....4...3...2...?
Up above, video (via MLB.com) of Davey Johnson's speech at the BBWAA dinner in New York on Saturday night where he was honored for winning NL Manager of the Year. Highlights include Davey thanking Mets manager Terry Collins for trading R.A. Dickey out of the NL East, and thanking Chipper Jones for retiring. His closing line is pretty good, too:
"This is my last year, Mr. Rizzo. I'm not gonna give you a chance to fire me."
