More #Mattitude: So Matt Williams told reporters he pulled Bryce Harper from Saturday's game due to lack of hustle. Harper, who pretty much runs through walls 99.9% of the time and has been dealing with a quad injury, didn't hustle down the line after grounding out weakly to the pitcher in the sixth and turned toward the dugout about ten feet from the bag after the out was recorded. Video of his 6th inning ground out that led to the benching is below (via @federalbaseball).
Of course, Harper's spot in the lineup came back around two more times: once in the 7th, and later in the 9th inning. And there's nothing like Kevin Frandsen at the plate in the 9th with a chance to win a game (but hey, he hit an RBI groundout):
Williams went out of his way to point out Harper's spot came up in the Nats' last rally. Said it was "too bad for his teammates."— Adam Kilgore (@AdamKilgoreWP) April 19, 2014
Indeed it was. Nats lose to the Cards 4-3. But at least Matt Williams got to show who's boss or something.
