After fouling a ball off his foot in the 9th inning last night (ouch), who could blame Jayson Werth for taking his time getting back into the box for the next pitch? Apparently Buck Showalter wasn't impressed, seen on TV yelling at Werth to "get in the f**king box!" See Vine below via @TheNatsBlogJoe:
Between that incident and his some of his postgame comments during the series, including his stupid comment earlier in the week about the kindness of Peter Angelos, Buck seems hellbent on making this Nats-O's thing a rivalry. August 4 should be interesting.
Anyway, home plate umpire CB Bucknor wasn't impressed with Werth, either:
CB Bucknor doesn't seem happy with Jayson Werth's time between pitches with one on, 2 out in ninth. Trainer & Matt come out. Werth stays in.— James Wagner (@JamesWagnerWP) July 11, 2014
...nor was MASN's Orioles beat reporter:
For whatever reason, Jayson Werth won't get in batters box. Now Matt Williams and trainer come out.— Roch Kubatko (@masnRoch) July 11, 2014
Orioles fans also weren't impressed (they booed him).
After the game Werth was apparently sore but no tests required on his foot. In other words, a trip to the DL is probably in the near future:
Jayson Werth fouled a ball off his left foot in his last at-bat. He was hobbling around the clubhouse. Declined to speak with reporters.— Adam Kilgore (@AdamKilgoreWP) July 11, 2014
Jayson Werth did not require tests for his foot, which is a good sign. Sore but okay is the first word.— Adam Kilgore (@AdamKilgoreWP) July 11, 2014
