(He's no Santa Claus. Philadelphia fans gave Jayson Werth a standing ovation. Screen grab of TV/MASN.)
Wow. Didn't see that coming. Jayson Werth got a standing ovation from Phillies fans before his first at-bat Tuesday night? Of course, there were plenty of boos at first, but they got drowned out by the cheers. Lots of 'em. Then another standing ovation as Werth jogged out to his old stomping ground in RF at Citizen's Bank Park in the bottom of the first?
What's next, cats and dogs living in peace? A snowball fight breaking out in hell?
(And you gotta love the signs directly behind Werth in the screen grab above: "$TIFF"; "WELCOME BACK LOSER"; "HIPPIE SELLOUT". That's more like it, Philly!)
Video clip here:
Of course Philly people are appreciative of players that helped them win the Championship! Werth is now on the other side of his career, he gave his best years here in Philly. Only guys that spurn them Bill Wags, Rolens, JD Drew etc. will never be greeted in good light by the fans. Afterall you are now the "enemy" playing for someone else. It is no different in any city or sports. GO PHILS WSC 2011!!!

Boo, Werth! Sellout!

Sellout is right. I booed him last night because he proved himself to be a loser by signing with a losing team for a few extra bucks. If he had come back with the Yankees or Bosox, I'd have cheered him.
