...by Phillies fans (back in April).
Fairly or unfairly, Jayson Werth is now getting somewhat similar treatment from Nats fans at home after a slow start and putrid June. The Washington Post's Thomas Boswell (who now seems to be scrambling to lower the expectations bar aound town on behalf of Mike Rizzo) probably resides in the "unfairly" camp with his latest column.
But fear not: In an article yesterday Werth told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick he's happy in Washington despite his struggles, yet misses his old Philly teammates:
"I definitely want to (dispel) the idea that I'm not happy. Other than my offensive production -- which I'm OK with because I know it's going to turn around -- I'm happy with my decision. I definitely miss my teammates in Philly and I miss playing there and all that. But I've turned the page and I feel good about my decision. I see the future of this organization and where it's going, and I'm really satisfied and I really like it here. When I'm in my seventh year, I think I'll look back and go, 'That was a really good career move.' "

Dropped to No. 6 in the lineup for Wednesday night's game, Werth suffered through another 0-4 night (but who's counting anymore at this point besides the boo-birds)? To be fair, Werth's seventh inning flyout to Cubs' right fielder Reed Johnson (fantastic catch, BTW) moved Michael Morse to third base, setting up Wilson Ramos' murder-suicide squeeze attempts . So there's that.
So until the day Werth snaps out of it (and he will, right?) the question remains: to boo, or not to boo?

Why boo? If he's trying his best – and no one has ever suggested otherwise – I wouldn't boo him. I'd cheer him just as I would any other player. He's going to be here for a long time, so why not encourage him?

I'm a non-boo'er. I can see that something is off but it will turn around. BTW, Johnson's catch of Werth's fly ball was considered a "highlight" catch by MLB. A average/weaker fielder and that's an RBI double.

Booing members of the home team is for Phillies fans. We're better than that in DC. If people don't like how Werth's playing, complain to the manager who's putting him in the lineup day after day. It's not like the booing is going to push Jayson into better at-bats; au contraire, it's likely to mess with his head even more.

I very much dislike when "fans" boo our players it is tasteless this is not the Bronx Zoo! I have said it since Day 1 at RFK I do not care who you are, if you are wearing a Nats uniform you are on my side and I will cheer you through the highs and the lows!

I leave the option of booing to an individual choice. Personally I don't like Werthless. In my opinion, he's overpaid, a Phillies scrub in a Nationals uniform, and left his best game back in Philadelphia. Philly has been carrying a serious case of rejection because they are no longer the capitol of the US!

Werth up in the bottom of the third, two on, no outs.
Base hit, RBI.

I've only booed 1 Nats so far, Batista when he came to the mound in the "Miss Iowa" game.
Have't been to the Park this homestand BUT on TV, it looks like Worthless is not trying on many of his at bats. If he swings hard, OK. But he has been waiving at the ball or keeping the bat on his shoulder for lots of called 3rd strikes. I am afraid that he has his money and doesn't give a crap now.
