(There's Screech. via NatsTown2K10 video.)
No offense to Michael Morse (or Ross Detwiler, for that matter)...But MLB has selected the perfect mascot to represent what is perhaps the most uninspiring collection of talent ever assembled as an "All-Star Team" in the history of All-Star teams.
Indeed, it is a very sad MLB All-Star team heading to Taiwan for the three-game 2011 Taiwan All-Star Series the first week of November (again, no offense to Morse or Detwiler). And Screech has been selected as the mascot. A less inspiring choice would have been Air Screech, of course:
Here's the press release from the Nationals, issued earlier in the day:
SCREECH TO VISIT TAIWAN FOR ALL-STAR TOUR
Nationals mascot will accompany MLB All-Star Team for series against Chinese Taipei National Team
The Washington Nationals official mascot Screech has been selected as the only Major League Baseball (MLB) mascot to travel to Taiwan with a team of MLB All-Stars for the 2011 Taiwan All-Star Series the first week of November.
Screech will join Nationals players Ross Detwiler and Michael Morse, who have been named to the MLB team roster, and Chien-Ming Wang, who will play for the Chinese Taipei National Team. The 2011 Taiwan All-Star Series will consist of five games played between November 2 – 6 in three different cities – New Taipei City (XinZhuang Stadium) on November 2, Taichung (Intercontinental Stadium) on November 3 and 4, and Kaohsiung (Chengcing Lake Stadium) on November 5 and 6.
The series is made possible through a partnership between MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association in an effort to promote the game of baseball internationally and showcase talent from around the world. Beginning next week, Nationals fans can follow Screech on Twitter at @ScreechTheEagle and on the Screech’s Spot blog at screech.mlblogs.com to learn more about his travels in Taiwan.
Yep, I have seen All Star softball games with more talent!
