"I don't try to put my best foot forward when we're down."
(Davey Johnson, via MASN/postgame comments, 9/30/2012)
Cardinals 10, Nationals 4: No clinch today. Captain Hook didn't have a quick enough hook for an awful Ross Detwiler, handed the game to Chien Ming Wang. Det N' Wang combined line: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 6 BB, 2 HR, 2 wild pitches.
And after a four-spot in the fourth courtesy of Harper, Desmond, and Espi, Davey inexplicably let Wang hit for himself with Kurt Suzuki on and the tying run in the on deck circle. Also, there was nobody warming in the bullpen.
And, yes, we're piling on Davey Johnson, likely NL Manager of the Year and the man who has nearly delivered the Nats to the promised land.
Well, it'll be a lot more fun clinching at home against the Phillies than on the road anyway. So thank you, Davey. Hopefully we'll be thanking you on Clinchmas tomorrow.
(*Not sure who first coined the term "Clinchmas" but we saw it all over the place on Twitter, and it is awesome.)
