So, after Bryce Harper was scratched from Saturday's game against the Mets because of swelling in his hand, we figured it was worth revisiting the AB on Friday in which Harper got jammed on a fastball by Drew Smyly while lining a single. A few sceen caps (via MASN/TV) of Harper's reaction above. OUCH.
Harper and Strasburg with hand scares on the same day? It's almost too much to take.
Here's Davey Johnson via Washington Post, on the decision to scratch Harper:
"He’s been getting a lot or reps, a lot of at-bats. I was going to bring him today because I like to watch him play. I took him out yesterday, and it was on my mind not to have him come here. When I saw him this morning, I said, ‘Oh, by the way, you’re not going.’ I scratched him."
Good news: His thumb is still sore, but Harper back in the lineup Sunday.
