Okay, so technically Harper's bat was already broken when he singled up the middle in the fifth inning last night against Gavin Floyd, but the bat finished breaking when it crashed into his back. GIF above, a shot of the bat first breaking on contact here:
Beats breaking a bat against your head and bleeding all over the field, I guess.
Harper and his Pompadour were asked about breaking the bat on his back during his postgame interview on MASN; his response?
"I have no clue. All I know is I got a base hit, so it's good."
No comment from his Pompadour:

He actually broke a bat he borrowed from another player. It didn't take long like last year for Harp to start using a variety pack of bats from his teammates.
Can't beat the fact that it's worked!

"Harper and his Pompadour" I think he refers to his "do" as a Rockabilly.
