Definitely worth noting: The 1st Annual Gio Gonzalez Foundation Baseball Camp for kids and VIP luncheon will take place on August 8th at Shirley Povich field in Bethesda in conjunction with Bethesda Big Train. Go here for Camp and VIP luncheon tickets. Proceeds go to the Gio Gonzalez Foundation, which provides support and funding to children and families in need of medical assistance.
Andrew Lang of All Stars Plus sports marketing was involved with teaming up Gio with Bethesda Big Train for the camp. Lang described the partnership between Gio and Big Train for the camp as a win-win: ("Whenever you start with a person like Gio, it's going to be a win-win even if you did a car wash!"). More from Lang on the spirit of the event and the charities involved: "A primary goal here that everyone involved agreed on was to take the majority of the camp's spots and reserve them for other charities at no-cost -- specifically charities that work with children in need. Early on some big names stepped up to help out, like Modell's Sporting Goods, Topps Trading Cards, PhotoFile, Wilson Sports, Chandler Bats, Body Armor, Barefruit Snacks, Deuce Brands, the Lerner family and the Washington Nationals. Plus so many local companies like Jim Coleman Automotive, Miller & Long, 106.7 The Fan radio and others have helped with the event. Each camper will get a VIP type of swag bag that will have a very cool photo autographed by Gio plus many other goodies that we will leave as a surprise!"
Rumor has it Gio has lined up numerous teammates to make appearances at the camp on the 8th (which is an off-day sandwiched between critical series against the Braves and Phillies at home).

Gio is a class act. I guess this is different from the Big Train camp next week with Ramos, Detwiler and Jordan.

My son went to the Chad Cordero Camp last year and had the chance to meet Roger Bernadina and Detwiler. He even brought home some stuff from Powerade and signed balls by all of those guys. Great camp. I am signing him up this week for this one for sure.
